hotel review: hilton Mahogany Bay hotel

LOCATED IN SAN PEDRO, BELIZE

ONE OF MY FAVS

We stayed at the Mahogany Bay Hotel for five nights for my last birthday, and it was by far one of my favorite hotel stays! The Mahogany Bay Hotel is a part of the Hilton Hotel Series, but it also has an owners club so that you can purchase a condo there and either live or rent it out if you want to. They are also custom-made so you can build your dream home inside the Mahogany Bay Village.

TRANSPORTATION TO THE MAHOGANY BAY HOTEL

You have to fly from another larger city to San Pedro on a Hopper plane, which I had never done before and was slightly nervous about. They have a rigorous process for grabbing your bags, which takes a little bit, but the hotel will set up transportation for you if you email their concierge office. Hence, we had everything situated and hopped into a nice air-conditioned car.

ARRIVING AT THE HOTEL

Arriving at the hotel went smoothly, and so was checking in! We were offered drinks upon arrival, and the young man at the front desk was so kind! He acknowledged my birthday and offered us an upgrade to a 3-bedroom condo. I didn’t expect an upgrade from them because I was only Gold Status at the time, but I gladly accepted it. They escorted us from the hotel lobby to our condo via golf cart, and the concierge brought our luggage inside for us.

INSIDE THE CONDO

Holy cow! This condo was massive! There was a primary suite that had a giant bathtub and private toilet. The second bedroom was just as big as the primary bedroom, with a double king-size bed. The third bedroom was a little more modest with a small bunk bed and closet, but perfect size for two kids – even teen sized. There was a second bathroom that hosted more of an open shower experience, which my husband loved. The kitchen was the perfect size for a delicious Sunday dinner with the family. But what I loved the most about this condo was that both the larger bedrooms and the living room had full-open doors! The nighttime was so perfect and calming that we opened the doors up most nights and just listened to the nature sounds coming from the bay. Absolute Perfection!

THE MAHOGANY BAY VILLAGE

The Mahogany Bay Hotel only has one restaurant on its campus, but they have a “Village” of vendors with a wide variety of foods to try out. My favorite was the Taco Shack. It’s a quaint hut with the best Belizian food in San Pedro! It’s authentic, and it’s incredible! Orlando, the owner, and his wife have been whipping up dishes in this cute little hut for ages, and I hope they never stop! We stopped by there for at least one meal a day, but I would have solely eaten there with zero complaints if I had to. The Belizian Dish and The Chicken Quesadilla were by far the best, but the breakfast burrito was also out of this world! Beyond that, we tried the hot dog shop and the sandwich shops and got delicious snacks every day. Oh! And don’t forget the coffee shop right on the corner by our condo and the perfect location for grabbing coffee every morning.

THE SPA WAS AMAZING, TOO

My husband and I elected to book the Romance Package, which also included 60-minute massages that we quickly booked through the front desk. Let me tell you – These massages were terrific! Both of us felt mushy after we were done. I love getting massages when I go on vacation, and it’s always interesting to see the different massage therapists’ techniques. These were simple Deep Tissue massages, and I swear she found and fixed knots that I didn’t even know I had. I would highly recommend getting a massage while you’re there! Heck, you’re in paradise! You might as well relax!

THE PRIVATE ISLAND WAS ICING ON THE CAKE

The absolute best part about this hotel is the private island they have! You have to take a short boat ride to get to it, but the scenery is just a little bonus, in my opinion! The island has several daybeds in the water; when you book one of them, you also get food and beverage service. We spent the entire day with our JBL Speaker, listening to music, eating delicious food, drinking strong cocktails, and soaking in the sun. There could not have been a better way to spend my birthday, and I loved every second of it.

OVERALL THIS IS A GREAT HOTEL

The Mahogany Bay Hotel is part of the Curio Collection of Hilton, so naturally, you would think that it would be too expensive for the average person to afford, but I can assure you that’s not the case. This hotel is budget-friendly, with nights ranging from $129 to $240 a night. We stayed for five nights for just over $1,000. Having all the amenities we had and the customer service that was provided to us, I would have easily paid closer to $300 a night; it was just that nice. If you’re planning your trip to San Pedro, I recommend staying at this hotel and taking advantage of all the great perks that come with it.
