Natural pool [conchi]

Concealed away on Aruba’s rugged northeastern coast, hidden as if it’s a pirate’s treasure, lies the Natural Pool, or as the locals call it, Conchi. Don’t think of it as just another swimming hole. No, sir! It’s a natural phenomenon formed by volcanic rocks, creating a secluded pool that’s as enchanting as it is refreshing. Getting there is an adventure in itself, involving a journey through Aruba’s Arikok National Park (another spot worth visiting!), which is like being transported to another world of everything you’d expect from nature.

You can either rent a 4×4 (which is on the pricey end for an average person, but if you can manage to do so, good for you!), be part of a tour, or go yourself. All of these come with their pros and cons. Such as, for the car, it’s easiest but it’s not affordable, a tour is a great option too but you can’t stay there for as long as you want since you have to abide by the tour guide’s rules, and driving and then hiking yourself allows you to stay there as much as you want, but can be tricky if you’re not sure about the directions. Whichever route you take, one thing’s guaranteed, and that is it will be worth it once you get there!

Why You Should Visit

So, why should you visit this hidden gem anyway? Well, imagine relaxing in crystal-clear waters, surrounded by nature’s version of a fortress, which are the rocks that surround the Natural Pool. The waves crash against the rock barrier, sending refreshing sprays of water your way if you’re sitting by them, making this place the epitome of serene bliss. It’s a travel enthusiast’s paradise, a travel blogger’s dream, and a thrill-seeker’s bucket list item all rolled into one. Also, there’s something unique about being in a place that’s accessible only by foot, 4×4, or horseback that makes you feel like you’re no less than the next great explorer.

Who Should Visit

Now, who’s this adventure ideal for? If you’re the type who thinks a vacation isn’t complete without a little adrenaline, the trek to Conchi or Natural Pool is just what you’re looking for! Families with kids on the older side should not pass up the opportunity to make memories in such a unique setting. Couples looking for a romantic getaway with just the right touch of adventure to always remember will find everything they’re looking for in the hard-to-get pool’s secluded water.

However, the journey to the Natural Pool or Conchi is not for the faint of heart—or body. The path can be rough to travel on, and the terrain is unforgiving due to the location Conchi resides in, so it’s best suited for those in good physical condition. There may be hope for you to have a good time if you take a travel guide with you, but keep the hurdles in mind so you’re not overwhelmed by it. If you’re someone who considers a stroll around the mall to be a workout, you might want to sit this one out. Or, consider joining a tour where you can ride in a 4×4, letting someone else handle the bumpy ride while you just focus on not falling over when the car hits a bump.

For the young ones and those with health conditions, it’s important to know that the pool’s natural beauty comes with natural challenges. The rocks can be slippery, and the waves are often unpredictable. It’s best to know your abilities to determine whether you can handle it or not!
